Viral fever continues to spread across the country as 845 more patients were admitted to hospitals within the last reporting period, bringing the total number of cases this year to 46,051, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Fresh hospitalisations were reported from different divisions, including 166 from Barishal, 91 from Chattogram, 164 from areas under Dhaka Division (outside city corporations), 97 from Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), 112 from Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), 101 from Khulna, 37 from Mymensingh, 54 from Rajshahi, 17 from Rangpur, and six from Sylhet.
Dengue-related deaths in Bangladesh reached alarming levels in recent years. In 2024 alone, 575 people died of the mosquito-borne disease. The situation was even more severe in 2023, when dengue claimed 1,705 lives — the highest death toll ever recorded in the country.
That year, DGHS documented 321,179 dengue infections, with 318,749 patients reported to have recovered.
